My Artwork Steps

These are the materials i used to create my artwork.

I used art paper and cut it into a square with equal size to create the rose.

Some petals are then glued on the part of the rose that I have done.

A piece of long paper is used and twirled to make the stem of the rose.

This is when the rose is done.

Some extra petals are made for the fallen petals.

The rose, petals, stem, leaves are then painted into the chosen colour.

Some shades of black is painted on the rose to make it look more dramatic.

The rose is then glued onto the mounting board.

The petals are glued onto the mounting board as well.

Black paint is used to paint on the mounting board to create the effect of depression.

DONE!

Inspiration of Colours and Through Pictures

an artwork that signifies depression

The queen of hearts

A Rose

COLOURS

For my artwork i chose to use only a little colours and each colour represents a meaning in it.

I used:

RED : 

Red is used on the Rose because in my artwork it represents Love.


Red is used as a symbol of guilt, sin, passion, and anger, often as connected with blood or sex.
The color red is associated with lust, passion, love, beauty, and danger. The association with love and beauty is possibly related to the use of red roses as a love symbol. Both the Greeks and the Hebrews considered red a symbol of love as well as sacrifice.

BROWN: 

Brown is just used on the stem of the Rose which is the colour of a typical rose stem.

Wood brown is a color that resembles wood.

The source of this color is the 1912 book Color Standards and Color Nomenclature by Robert Ridgway. This color list was intended for biology and botany and is now on the Internet.

Thus, this color name has been in use since 1912.

GREEN :
The typical colour of a Rose's leaf.


In many folklores and literatures, green has traditionally been used to symbolize nature and its embodied attributes, namely those of life, fertility, and rebirth. Green was symbolic of resurrection and immortality in Ancient Egypt; the god  was depicted as green-skinned. It is often used to describe foliage and the sea, and has become a symbol of environmentalism.

BLACK:

Black is used to represent the depression in it.


Black is the colour of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light. Black is a symbol of mourning and bereavement in Western societies, especially at funerals and memorial services. Black briefly describes the expression of depression.

Artist Statement: The Rose

I chose to make The Rose for depression because i did some research online and found out that a 

RED ROSE 

represents sincere love.


I also made only ONE ROSE to express the feeling of ALONE.

The rose is made to look like its fallen to the ground, to show that the sincere love was betrayed and hurt.

Abit of BLACK is used to show the Depression that is caused by the disappointing relationship.

My DEPRESSION was caused by the

LIES and CHEATING in a previous relationship with someone that I loved so much. 

The FALLEN PETALS from the Rose represents 

the love that is SHATTERED and BROKEN.

The BLACK LIQUID that flows out of the Rose

represents the SADNESS and DEPRESSION caused from the break up.

I did some research online and found out that BLACK best describes the mood of depression. 
It also best represents the TEARS caused from depression.

Here's something I've been working on for my first Media Arts Design assignment.

IDEA DEVELOPMENT


This is the mind map that i did for Depression.

This is where my ideas begin and sketches begin.
Ideas:
1. A heart that is pierced with something sharp, mybe like a nail, to show that it is caused by heartbreak.
2. Sharp objects that pierces the canvas in order to show anger or hatred towards someone.
3. A rose that looks like it has fallen down and weak.

I chose to make the third idea of mine.
It is a fallen red rose with some petals comeing out of it and abit of black liquid coming out from the rose.
